Research interests

My research interests lie primarily around exploring an agent-centred approach toward understanding the political thought of individuals. In particular, I focus on making sense of the messiness and situatedness of an individual’s appropriation of ideas. In this, I am specifically interested in the role of 'cultural' history and experience on an agent's conceptual framework.

To this end, my a particular focus is the early thought of James Ramsay MacDonald, looking to redefine our sense of the nature and power of his ideas. I am particularly concerned with the centrality of the relationship between self and community in his social explanation. In doing so the project aims to provide a window for a richer analysis of his socialism.
