Research interests

Lu’s research lies between engineering, science and social science, analysing the impacts of natural hazards and extreme weather conditions on societies. In particular, Lu aims to quantify the impact of these events on city-region infrastructure systems, people’s health and socioeconomic development, integrating multiple data sources and modelling tools into a unified analysing and decision-making framework. She has helped with the development of HazardCM, which is a unique software that assesses and quantify risk and vulnerability of infrastructure system to flooding in cities.

Lu’s work covers:

  • Agent-Based Modelling on Dynamic Socio-technical Interaction Modelling (city-region studies)
  • Geoinformatics (machine learning, spatial modelling, statistical analysis)
  • Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (satellite earth observations, mapping, DEM, land use, weather, air quality)
  • Hazard Risk Assessment  (weather modelling, risk mapping, scenario analysis, geostatistics, mitigation and adaptation)
