Research interests

My research explores the interplay between genetics, the innate immune system and skeletal damage. To investigate these relationships, I use zebrafish as a model. Many of the cell types and genes required to make and repair bones are conserved between zebrafish and humans. However, unlike humans, zebrafish have a fast development time and are also excellent for live imaging of bone throughout their lives, making them an excellent model to rapidly sudy skeletal development and disease. Using the zebrafish model, we are learning about the complex disease pathways of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis at a cellular and molecular level.
