Personal profile

Research interests

I am a Post-doctoral Research Associate in Andrew Davidson's lab.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic my research has focused on SARS-CoV-2. Currently, as part of the G2P consortium I am using a reverse genetics approach to make synthetic copies of the virus. This allows us to control the genetic sequence of the virus in the lab, enabling us to investigate the effect that variation in the genome has upon viral replication and fitness.

Prior to COVID-19, my research has focused on other RNA viruses including HIV and Dengue, where I have been interested in the effects that these viruses have upon the metabolism of the cells they infect. What changes does viral infection cause to the cell’s metabolism and is the virus dependent upon these to replicate? How does the virus reprogramme these metabolic processes to provide energy and biosynthetic components to make new virus particles?
