Dr Marii Paskov

I am a quantitative sociologist specialising in comparative research on socioeconomic inequality and social stratification. My research is focused on inequalities in living standards and financial wellbeing, social mobility, and the role of policies in reducing inequality and improving living standards, wellbeing and opportunities. My current research looks at inequalities in financial capabilities and financial wellbeing, and social mobility in entrepreneurship.

I am currently a Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol, and an Associate Fellow at Nuffield College and the Institute for New Economic Thinking, University of Oxford. Previously, I held a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Oxford and worked as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. I have also held a postdoctoral research position within the Employment, Equity and Growth Programme at the University of Oxford. My international experience includes visiting research positions at the Centre on Poverty and Inequality at Stanford University.

My research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Social Forces, European Sociological Review, Longitudinal and Life Course Studies, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. I have secured external research funding from organisations including the British Academy, the Estonian Research and Development Council and the John Fell Fund. I serve as an Associate Editor for European Societies, the flagship journal of the European Sociological Association.

I have over 15 years of teaching and supervision experience at undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD levels across Sociology and Social Policy departments in the UK and the Netherlands, including at the University of Bristol, University of Oxford, University of Amsterdam, and Free University Amsterdam. My teaching and supervision cover poverty, inequality, work and employment, social policy and research methods.
