Personal profile
Research interests
Mr Khan is a public health and epidemiology researcher with a broad focus on mental health. His current work investigates the biological, and psychosocial, and environmental determinants of mental conditions such as depression and related mental illnesses. His doctoral research explores how psychosocial factors may influence immune and inflammatory pathways, potentially contributing to the onset or progression of psychiatric disorders. By identifying these mechanisms, he aims to support the development of personalised and stratified mental health interventions.
Mr Khan is particularly interested in life-course approaches, integrating genetic, biological, and pschosocial data to understand how risk accumulates and manifests over time. His research leverages large-scale cohort studies and advanced quantitative methods to investigate causal relationships and identify novel biomarkers as well as psycholosical and environmental determinants.
In addition to exploring the biopsychosocial predictors of mental illness, Mr Khan has significant experience addressing the social and structural determinants of health, especially in resource-limited settings. His previous work includes extensive research on maternal and child health, mental health, nutrition, and health systems strengthening in South Asia, including Bangladesh.
His long-term goal is to advance precision public health by translating findings from high-income settings into scalable, context-appropriate interventions for low- and middle-income countries, helping to bridge global disparities in mental healthcare as well as maternal and child health outcomes.
