Research interests

Nick's research focuses on Social Stratification and the Sociologies of Work and Education. His current major project investigates class-, migration-, and gender-based inequalities in elite and managerial occupations. Previous projects have investigated inequality, working conditions, and protest in the gig economy, as well as the consequences of the marketization of state education.

His research has been published in British Journal of Industrial Relations, British Journal of Sociology of Education (Best Early Career Article Award), New Technology, Work and Employment, Socio-Economic Review, and Work, Employment and Society.

He holds a DPhil in Sociology from Nuffield College, Oxford, where he was also Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow. He completed an MSc in Political Sociology (LSE), and a BA in Politics (Cambridge).
