Personal profile

Research interests

I hold a BSc (hons) in Environmental Science (2016), and an MRes in Bioenergy (2017) from the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, and am currently a University of Bristol doctoral researcher in Civil Engineering.

My doctoral research seeks to quantify methane emissions associated with non-sewered sanitation facilities in sub-Sharan Africa, and to explore potential implications and consequences due to implementing reduction management methods. Quantification of methane has been undertaken as part of the SCARE Project, where we have developed new measurement methodologies, with field work completed in Ethiopia, Senegal, and Uganda.

Alongside my doctorate, I am working on a UNICEF project, in collaboration with consultancy group ECOPSIS, generating field examples (Nigeria and Mozambique) of how to integrate new methods and data into city- and nation-wide sanitation emission profiles.

Previously, I have been employed in the field of science communication working on a range of projects from encouraging and engaging the public in citizen science, to delivering psychology and maths classroom activities, and as a science presenter at schools and events across the country and abroad.

At the University of Bristol, I have worked for the Cabot Institute for the Environment developing and delivering social media campaigns and since 2021, I have acted as a teaching assistant on the MEng module “Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development”, where I have taught sessions on WaSH, helped redesign lectures, and completed coursework marking/internal review.

My research interests include access to and improving sanitation, international development, environmental education, and science communication.
