My current research explores how eco self-build communities (ESBCs) can become a sustainable, cost-effective and scalable housing solution in the UK. This research aims to:
- Understand the market for ESBC housing, evaluate the extent to which the model satisfies the market and what further development is needed to facilitate their future expansion.
- Investigate the design, sustainability and cost-effectiveness of alternative building envelopes for ESBC housing.
- Adopt and apply a suitable project evaluation framework to assess the sustainability and scalability of ESBC housing.
This is an Industrial CASE Studentship funded by EPSRC and Bright Green Futures, using their ESBC housing scheme, Water Lilies, as a case study for the research.
