I am a sociologist in the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS) specialising in the analysis of complex sociotechnical systems, particularly sociotechnical systems involving Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. I am particularly interested in the challenges of developing, integrating and implementing AI technologies for use in real-world contexts (e.g. the role of regulation, trust and transparency) as well as its effects on professional practice and organisational structure.
I have undertaken research on the implementation of Digital Twins in cardiovascular medicine (UKRI-funded), the development of healthcare AI for the early diagnosis of a rare disease (Wellcome Trust), the improvement of public inclusivity in robotics design (University of Sheffield), the training of visual expertise in health professions education (ESRC), the disclosure of mental health in professional sport (De Montfort University), and the provision of mental health support for medical students (GMC).
