Personal profile

Research interests

I have been awarded the Society for French Studies Postdoctoral Prize Fellowship to conduct a research project entitled 'Narratives of Pleasure and Protest by Francophone Sex Workers'. It focuses on literature by authors from France, Switzerland and Algeria, from the 1950s to today. I previously completed a PhD in French at the University of Leeds, funded by the Leeds 110 Anniversary Research Scholarship, and am now revising my thesis for publication with Peter Lang as a winner of the 2019 Young Scholars Competition (Frank French Feminisms: Sex, Sexuality and the Body in the Work of Ernaux, Huston and Arcan). I am also co-organising the next Women in French conference taking place virtually in May 2021, in collaboration with academics at Maynooth University. I recently co-edited a special issue for L’Esprit Créateur (‘Challenging Spaces and Gazes: The Body in 20th- and 21st-Century Francophone Culture’), and forthcoming publications include chapters in books by Presses Sorbonne Nouvelle and University of Wales Press, as well as an edited volume with Peter Lang (Queer(y)ing Bodily Norms in Francophone Culture).

As an Associate Teacher in the School of Modern Languages, I also teach on the first-year Representations of Francophone Cultures course, supervise final-year Independent Study Dissertations, and contribute to the MA in Comparative Literatures and Cultures (The Cultural Imagination of Gender and Cultural Encounters).
