Personal profile

Research interests

I am a Jamaican-British researcher and educator with a background in language and literature study and teaching in English, French and Spanish at secondary and tertiary-level institutions. My research interrogates the connections between how students and teachers engage with literary texts and broader political praxis outside of classrooms.

My research draws on transnational Black feminist principles and I see research as a way of bringing differing cultural, linguistic, social and national contexts into conversation with each other. As such, much of my research focuses on literature education as a space where national values and nationalisms can be projected.

My current study follows the experiences of activist literature teachers in the US and the UK resisting nationalistic policy and discourses through their teaching practices.
