Personal profile

Research interests

PhD researcher at The University of Bristol, funded by the UKRI through the SWBio DTP - South West Biosciences Doctural Training Partnership.

Working within a multidisciplinary team I am using an integrated approach to measure multiple indicators of on farm sustainability (environmental, animal welfare and socio-economic impacts) across UK dairy production systems.

The research will be conducted in the field, working with both intensive and extensive dairy farmers and hopes to:

- gain improved understanding of the pathways towards sustainability for dairy production in the UK, helping to shape future policy.

- provide insight and evidence of current societal perceptions towards the UK industry to help the farming industry align with public expectations.

Having originally graduated from the University of Edinburgh and completing my final year project at Moredun Research Institute I went on to work in the dairy sector as a commercial cheese buyer before returning to work on my family farm.

I am hugely motivated by the significant challenges currently faced by the UK farming industry and passionately believe that collaborative research between science, farmers and the public is of vital importance to achieve sustainable agriculture - "diversity over division".
