Research interests

Sharon's research examines the material and discursive processes that reproduce the idea of racial difference, and racist practices and outcomes in education systems. Her work addresses UK education policy and issues of race and racism in the field of comparative and international education. 

As a former primary school teacher, Sharon also works closely with primary school leaders (Key Stages 1 & 2) to strengthen teacher knowledge and capacity in taking forward anti-racist and decolonising initiatives.  

Sharon is a co-director of the Centre for Comparative International Research in Education and also a co-organiser of the Race, Empire and Education Collective and the Politics of Representation Collective.
