Research interests

My current research examines the 193 scholars funded by the Boxer Indemnity Scholarship in the early twentieth century. I focus on the negotiation process behind the scholarship policy, as well as these scholars’ educational experiences in Britain, their forms of social engagement, and their subsequent career trajectories.

More broadly, my interests lie in twentieth-century social history within the intertwined contexts of the British Empire and modern China.

I completed my BA in Philosophy at East China Normal University (Shanghai, China), alongside a minor in History at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. I then pursued an MA in History at the University of Bristol, where I am now continuing my studies as a PhD researcher.
