Research interests

Sian was awarded a scholarship by the ESRC in 2015 to undertake doctoral studies. Sian’s research focuses on the wellbeing of secondary school teachers in England and Scotland. She adopts a critical, participatory approach that aspires to meaningfully involve teachers in all stages of academic inquiry. Sian has investigated the use of the arts in social sciences, specifically the use of poetry. She is interested in issues of representation and in challenging hegemonic ideas of what counts as knowledge. Prior to undertaking post-graduate research Sian was herself a secondary school teacher for about 10 years.
