Dr Sotiris T Lalaounis is an Associate Professor in Brand and Design Management and Deputy School Education Director at the University of Bristol Business School. Previously, Sotiris was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter where he led the Business School’s UG marketing course as Programme Director.
Sotiris holds an undergraduate degree in marketing (University of Strathclyde), and postgraduate degrees in public relations (University of Stirling) and design and digital media (The University of Edinburgh). His research explores the management of organizational paradoxes and tensions in the creative industries. Sotiris earned his PhD in design management from the Centre for Creative Industries at Glasgow Caledonian University where he explored business development issues in design firms, and his study was funded by the UK Government through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP).
Sotiris’ teaching is interdisciplinary spurred by his academic education, professional experience, and his scholarship, which combine the subject areas of branding and marketing with creativity and design. He is interested in the relation of design management with marketing and branding, and has published two textbooks: Design Management (2017, Routledge; 2020 in Japanese) which explores organisation and marketing perspectives in design management, and Strategic Brand Management and Development (2020, Routledge) which discusses brand management and development combining multiple perspectives.
Sotiris is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM), a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE), and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
