Research interests

My PhD, funded by World Horse Welfare, investigated the welfare of horses in England and Wales.  In particular it looked at stakeholder perceptions of horse welfare as a means of identifying welfare problems, their causes and solutions.  Qualititave methods including semi-structured interviews and focus groups were used to explore, in depth, the perceptions held.

I have maintained an interest in stakeholder consultation as a means of understanding animal welfare problems, their problems and solutions, supervising student research projects in this area across a range of species.

More recently, as Bristol Veterinary School's Admissions Tutor and International Director, I have been conducting research looking into the impact of admissions criteria on student diversity and success.
