Dr Thomas West joined the School of Management in January, 2021 as Lecturer in Healthcare Management in the Operations and Management Science, Innovation and Healthcare group. Thomas comes from an occupational psychology background and his research focuses on leadership theory (and practice), as well as leadership in healthcare. Additionally, Thomas’ research interests include organisational culture (and collaborative leadership), employee well-being and engagement, teamwork, and cross-boundary working. He received his doctorate from Aston Business School, which examined the relationship between leadership and organisational outcomes across the NHS.  His research has been published in management journals as well as healthcare journals, including Group and Organization Management, and BMJ Open. In addition, Thomas has published a number of reports,  reviews, and evaluations aimed at bringing evidence based research to a practitioner audience. Thomas has also served as a guest editor for a special edition of Frontiers in Public Health (Health Service Management and Leadership: COVID-Style). Prior to joining Bristol, Thomas worked as a lecturer at Southampton University, in the School of Health Sciences where he lectured on leading and managing organisations and systems in healthcare. Additionally, he worked in Deloitte's Board Advisory team, providing consultancy support and advice to the leadership of a wide range of NHS organisations, including large foundation trusts, and regulatory bodies.
