I am interested in state resistant spaces and organised hiding.

My doctoral project entails a consideration of caves, tunnels and basements as particular manifestations of resistance to state authorities.  The social relationships which lie behind the organisation and formation of these hidden spaces is difficult to research, as they want to remain secret.  In this regard, secrecy is an act of resistance, and by viewing these spaces and relations through a sociological lens, we can perhaps shed light on the power and agency of the communities who choose to live underground.
