My PhD involves the mappnig of social vulnerability to natural hazards in low income countries. This most notably involves the use of measuring the brightness of parts of places from space and testing the assumption that places which have a higher "brightness per person" will be more reslient to natural disasters. My research also features other datasets involves Volunteered Geographical Information sources such as OpenStreetMap to help in gauging risk to certain places.
