Research interests

My research interests lay in the area of miniaturized sensors and actuators, be it artificial ones based on modern microfabrication technology (MEMS) or natural products like the ones found in insects and fishes. My research focus on piezoelectric material-based acoustic and ultrasonic transducers. How to integrate the piezoelectric material into the MEMS process and how to design the transducers for different applications such as ultrasonic non-destructive testing or vibrational energy harvesting. I also researched piezoelectric and piezoresistive sensors for very low frequency flow testing. The design is inspired by the lateral line sensors found in fishes and can be used to monitor the flow rate in medical devices. I am currently studying the acoustic metamaterials found on moths, how moths are using these acoustic structures to defence the echolocation from bats. The project has the potential to generate new concept biomimetic noise mitigation and cloaking materials.
