Investigation into how dogs detect changes in cortisol levels in conspecifics and humans. Dogs are beginning to be trained to assist patients with Addison’s disease; a condition resulting in low cortisol levels, suggesting dogs can discriminate cortisol levels via scent. Assessment of the sensitivity and specificity of medical alert dogs' response to changes in cortisol and the use of mass spectrometry to identify critical compounds that trigger alerting behaviour.
