I used this to fund a collaborative workshop at the NOPOKI University in Atalaya, in Amazonian Peru, where Professor Juan Ruben Ruiz Zevallos acted as my primary host. I used the ISF to invite two Matses leaders and schoolteachers to visit the university of NOPOKI and discuss possible strategies to enhance indigenous education. Matses people are an indigenous group with whom I’ve conducted nearly two years of research since 2010, and they live remotely in a very different part of Peru and have extremely limited possibilities of accessing higher education or waged jobs.
