The team nomination is for the Senior (Julie Townsend) and personal (Sarah Allsop, Liz Gaze, and Louise Arnold) tutors for the Gateway programmes. This team looks after students from 3 programmes (Gateway to Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science), the faculty's widening participation programmes before they join the professional programme streams. These students are from non-traditional routes of entry into the professional programmes and this team helps support and facilitate their transition into University life and study. Each personal tutor has experience of the professional programme of study so tailors support to students in their preparedness for the later years of study. Thus this team are pivotal in guiding these diverse future clinicians to their careers and study, in particular supporting them in dealing with uncertainty. The team facilitate communication via an open door policy, one that has been retained during the COVID pandemic as a digital open door policy. The support for these students is also integrated into their linked PDP unit, which includes tasks to support personal and academic transition into university, professional study, and as a student clinician. This team are incredibly student centred and students really benefit from their outstanding support.
