Nominated for the Outstanding Research Supervision Award in the Bristol Teaching Awards 2021 (School of Anatomy Capstone Project Supervision Team)

Prize: Prizes, Medals, Awards and Grants

Description

The School of Anatomy Capstone project supervision team have developing cutting-edge anatomical research projects for Applied Anatomy final year students to complete as the ‘Capstone’ dissertation project of their degree programme. These have included projects aligned with clinical careers, sports and exercise, forensic practice, discipline specific research and have multiple formats including wet and dry lab-based research, object production, and library research. These projects have also involved collaboration with partners in the fitness industry, clinical practice, and other research labs.
In particular, this year required innovation and problem solving in COVID-proofing and pivot-proofing these projects to allow students continuity of study throughout the year, while still leaving space for exploration and discovery, and for students to develop as independent researchers. All project supervisors considered possible COVID pivots in order to protect against changing restrictions. Students have received regular supervision meetings virtually to ensure regular guidance from staff. This has been pivotal in supporting staff as they lead and supervise students in their primary research through the challenges of the 20/21 academic year.
