8031 System Integration & Testing of a WCP QKD Payload to TRL5 QSTP

Project Details

Description

This work will deliver a TRL5 Weak Coherent Pulse Payload as an enabling technology for a future space-based Quantum Key Distribution mission. The work utilises core technologies developed at the University of Bristol and University of Strathclyde. The technology supports a UK in-orbit service demonstration mission “Responsive Operations for Key Services” led by Craft Prospect Ltd in a consortium including BT Plc.
The work addresses gaps within the overall space system readiness of the payload and aligns to other UK developments, focussing on formalisation of system architecture, mission operations, software development, and taking key de-risking actions including interface evaluation, environmental testing, and performance characterisation.
