A Blast from the Past: The Resurgence of Board Games in the Post-Digital Age

Project Details

Description

The project explores the scope, reasons and implications of the ongoing board game revival in the UK and, more specifically, the rise of social board gaming and its role in the popularisation and mainstreaming of tabletop games and the social and economic revival of UK cities and communities. In contrast to the traditional perspective of board gaming as a domestic or subcultural pastime, I explore it as an increasingly prominent part of the UK’s urban consumption scene formed by cafes, pubs, bars and other spaces of socialising. I also situate the resurgence of board games in the wider context of postdigital consumer culture.
