A pilot study to assess the possibility of generating a quantitative analysis of the time evolution of gambling-related practices within cryptocurrency trading platforms

Project Details

Description

Following long-standing concerns about the lack of regulation of crypto-trading platforms, the Treasury Committee tasked with looking at cryptocurrency trading in the UK recently announced their belief that these products should be brought within the realm of gambling regulation. This would have significant major consequences for the market in the UK, and raises the question of whether these practices are best understood as ‘gambling’, ‘investment’, or something else entirely. This project is seeking to better understand how people engage with and experience crypto-trading; we are interviewing people in the summer of 2023, and are then hoping to build a larger international survey in coming years.
