Project Details
Description
I developed a brief dietary questionnaire, the Bristol Diabetes and Diet Questionnaire, for clinical use with people with Type 2 diabetes. This questionnaire rapidly identifies dietary habits, focussing on foods and dietary practices that are of importance in the management of Type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance. The questionnaire can be scored quickly by someone with basic knowledge of nutrition. It is designed to be used to set specific dietary goals which aid in weight reduction, glucose control or help lower risk factors associated with heart disease. The questionnaire is reliable but needs further work, with pre-existing data, to demonstrate that it is accurate enough to be used in clinical practice. I will also ask two GP practices from the greater Bristol area to conduct a feasibility study of the questionnaire. Feedback from this study will help design a definitive study to answer whether this questionnaire can help patients to lose weight, improve glucose control and lower risk factor for heart disease.
