Project Details
Layman's description
The burden of musculoskeletal disease is growing across Africa, with implications throughout the lifecourse. Currently research and healthcare capacity to address musculoskeletal disease is limited across the region. Ultimately SAMSON aims to drive the musculoskeletal health agenda within national health policies in Africa. This funding will pump-prime a series of initiatives; to build collaborations across Zimbabwe, South Africa, The Gambia and Uganda; secure new research equipment in Zimbabwe (a pQCT scanner to measure bone architecture), train research personnel, assist the launch of a new clinical fracture risk assessment tool (FRAX), fund focused research activity and develop the SAMSON website.
