Project Details

Description

City farms are a rich site for the exploration of education, community and connection with ‘nature’ yet there is extremely limited research into them. We are drawing on ideas of ‘making kin in the
Chthulucene’ (Haraway, 2016) as well as related texts (such as Tsing, 2015) and a range of
understandings of climate change education to plan a larger research project situated in city farms.
This is Stage 1 and will consist of scoping interviews with those working in city farms. We will explore
how participants understand the educational role of city farms; how discourses of nature
connectedness are constructed; and possibilities for climate change education. Hence, our research
questions are as follows:
1. What educational practices operate in city farms?
2. What discourses of nature-connectedness operate in city farms?
