DECENTRALISED DATA AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS

ALADDIN is a multi-million pound multi-disciplinary research project funded by a BAE Systems and EPSRC strategic partnership. It involved a number of leading research groups from Imperial College London, University of Southampton, University of Bristol, and University of Oxford.
The project was concerned with developing mechanisms, architectures, and techniques to deal with the dynamic and uncertain nature of distributed and decentralised intelligent systems.
Disaster management was the chosen application domain as the world faces an urgent need for better means to deal with such situations where a number of actors have to coordinate their activities when facing significant degrees of uncertainty and where the context is very dynamic.
The project ran from 2005 to 2010 and over its lifespan produced more than 150 publications, won a number of awards including the Engineer award in 2009, produced new disaster simulation platforms, and generated a number of patents and technologies that have been exploited by the associated industrial partners.
