Dehumanization during Mass Violence: Conceptual, Methodological and Empirical Challenges

Supported by the FSSL seed corn fund, this initiative brought together a number of scholars working on the challenge of dehumanization in violence conflict. Drawing on expertise from social psychology, sociology, philosophy, history, anthropology and political science/International Relations, we established an interdisciplinary network including scholars from 5 countries to explore and advance our understanding of dehumanization and its role and function in violent conflict. In its initial stage this collaboration resulted in a three workshops mapping and analysing conceptual, methodological and empirical challenges in current dehumanization research.
