Project Details
Description
This project arose from concerns raised by practitioners working with service families who noted an impact of active military service on domestic abuse within those families. This pilot project involved a small survey of military personnel and their partners to establish the most important factors associated with the re-integration of military personnel into family life on returning from active duty.
Seminar
A recently-formed network of organisations and practitioners will now offer more help military families with this issue. The network has been created in response to issues raised at a successful seminar, "Domestic abuse and military families: addressing the need for better support services", held in Coventry on 6 October 2010. Participants discussed a range of current initiatives, services and evidence, including this research.
The network welcomes involvement from organisations who work with military personnel and their families in a training or other support capacity. If you want to be added to the network list, please email: e.williamson@bristol.ac.uk, including your name, organisation and website, if you have one. Please state if you can offer training or direct services with military families on this issue.
