This fellowship was awarded under a joint programme by the ESRC and the US Social Science Research Council (SSRC). It provided approximately 18 fellowships, at around $10,000 each. The fellowships supported collaborative visits for American scholars to work with members of ESRC-supported projects in Britain, or for British scholars at ESRC-supported projects to visit collaborators in the Americas, between June 2007 and September 2008.
The fellowship was used to support Washbrook's visit to Columbia University during the academic year 2007/8, where she worked with Professor Jane Waldfogel to develop expertise with the US's ECLS-B birth cohort. This work laid the foundation for future collaboration and comparative analyses of early life environments and child outcomes using the UK's MCS birth cohort.
