Fathers with Learning Disabilities

Project Details

Description

As adults with learning disabilities are living more independently in community settings, more are choosing to start a family and have children, but because of their learning disability sometimes need support to develop their parenting skills. We now understand much more about the needs of parents with learning disabilities, but this has focused predominantly on mothers. The current study, funded by the School for Social Care Research, is investigating the lives of fathers with learning disabilities living in England and their experience of services, focusing on the following questions:

• What are the experiences of fathers with learning disabilities?
• What support do fathers with learning disabilities receive from social care services?
• What issues do services face in engaging and supporting fathers with learning disabilities?
• How can services be improved to better meet the needs of fathers with learning disabilities?
