The project aims to assist in developing and globalizing the existing curriculum of Suleymaniya University, Iraqi Kurdistan Region, by introducing gender and violence studies to a group of members of teaching staff from the Sociology Department and establishing a gender violence Nucleus/Centre there. Through international liaison and working together, and by introducing analytical concepts of gender and violence, as well as relevant theories and research methods linked to gender violence studies and social work, the project also aims to broaden the scope of teaching and to contribute to increasing the research capacity of scholars and students linked to the Sociology Department. Graduate students and staff will make visits to the Centre for Gender and Violence Research, University of Bristol, and Bristol staff will visit Suleymaniya in international exchanges. The project aims to increase sensitivity and awareness about gender and violence issues both within the HE sector as well as within society more widely in Iraqi Kurdistan.
