Global study on child poverty and disparities

The purpose of this research project is to assist UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Organisation) in producing the first ever global study on child poverty and disparities. The first phase of the project will involve the analyses of survey data on the circumstances and living conditions of children and their families in 40 countries in the developing world.

Professor David Gordon and Shailen Nandy, of the Centre for the Study of Poverty and Social Justice and Townsend Centre for International Poverty Research will be working with UNICEF on the global study and advising individual country offices.

The goal of the global study is to improve national, regional and global awareness of how social and economic polices can help eradicate absolute child poverty during the 21st century.

By exploring different dimensions of poverty the study will aid in the understanding of how progress in one area (eg. access to safe water) could make progress in another easier (eg. improving child health).
