Description

This workshop will bring together IMMAGE proponents with the IODP Exp-401 shipboard party to plan the first scientific drilling project that involves both offshore drilling with IODP and onshore drilling with ICDP.

Layman's description

IMMAGE is a scientific drilling project that is investigating the role Mediterranean-Atlantic water exchange played in driving global cooling 8-4 million years ago. It is the world's first scientific drilling project that involves both offshore drilling with the Integrated Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) and onshore drilling with International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP). The offshore drilling is now scheduled to start in December 2023, but the project as a whole will take around ten years to complete. This workshop will bring together IMMAGE proponents with the IODP Exp-401 shipboard party for the first time. The aim is to build the strong collaborative relationships that are required to sustain a project of this scale and to scope out the long-term future of IMMAGE.
