Project Details
Description
Mathematics and linguistics are often pitted in opposition: mathematics conventionally reserved for rational, logical thought and language often inhabits a more communicative, expressive form. This project aims to disassemble this dichotomy, exploring mathematical notation and formulation as a vessel for complex, expressive thought - in addition to its conventional use in logic and reasoning. We are interested in breaking down poetry’s reputation for inaccessibility and deliberate obscurity and finding new ways of creating and publishing poems, as well as exploring new avenues of collaboration between poets and mathematicians.
Layman's description
A collaboration between mathematicians and poets to explore how they express barely expressible concepts, and how they might learn forms of expression from each other.
