Project Details

Phosphorus security (i.e. ensuring P is shared fairly and used sustainably and safely) is one of the greatest global sustainability challenges of the 21st century. The ‘Our Phosphorus Future’ priming initiative responds to the critical need to provide consensus from the global P community on sustainable P use. ‘Our Phosphorus Future’ will bring together scientific evidence to support policies addressing this challenge. A core output will be a synthesis report which will communicate clearly the evidence on flows and drivers of the global P cycle. This evidence will be used to underpin clear messages on the capacity of changes in societal behaviour to transform governance of P from local to global scales. At the same time it will prime the international scientific and policy communities to co-develop the next steps towards a durable international process on P science support to policy. The project is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (International Opportunities Fund), UK, the Dutch Government and the United Nations Environment Programme
