Project Details

Description

The Equality Bill 2005 introduces a gender equality duty for all public authorities in Great Britain. From April 2007 public bodies will be required to eliminate sex discrimination and harassment and promote gender equality. This study focuses on this public sector duty on gender equality in the context of Public Service Agreements (PSAs) in the:

1. Department of Health
2. Department for Education and Skills (now Department for Children, Schools and Families, Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform)
3. Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (now Department for Communities and Local Government).

The study explores data relating to the PSAs for these departments, in order to assess the PSA targets from a gender perspective and to consider the availability of data which would enable these targets to be judged on gender equity grounds.
