Project Details
Description
This is a project analyses shipboard activities, and in particular practices of reading and writing, through archival research - in particular the examination of journals and diaries written by migrants on board vessels travelling to and from Britain. It is a collaboration between Dr Laurence Publicover (University of Bristol) and Dr Susann Leibich (University of Heidelberg) which will build from a workshop, 'Reading and Writing at Sea', taking place in Heidelberg in October 2016; the aim is to produce a collection of essays building on this workshop and to work together - and with other academic contacts resulting from the workshop - to fashion a larger funding bid relating to migrants' experiences at sea.
