Description

An HEA change project exploring the role of academic discipline societies in the construction of communities of scholarship through which students can engage in disciplinary conversations. The role of academic discipline societies has been neglected in thinking about student participation in HE leadership.

Key findings

That practice in relation to academic societies is varied, but that when functioning well they make a major contribution to fostering a sense of academic community for students through which staff and students can communicate, and through which student experience is enriched.
