River comics: understanding Amazonian riverine perspectives on global warming

This project’s central aim is to offer new insights into global warming by proposing a theoretical and methodological framework that centres the ecological knowledge of ribeirinhos, riverine dwellers in Amazonian Brazil, and thereby to expand the western-centric premises that most climate change research is built upon. Using
participatory visual methods (co-production of comic books and graphic ethnographies), I will explore the ribeirinhos’ environmental epistemologies and climate adaptation strategies, offering a pluralistic knowledge that will not only enhance existing understandings of climatic events, but also inform new strategies towards positive climate adaptation.
