This brief project formed part of an initiative, led by the South West Regional Intelligence Group, to respond to demands for the provision of social data. Its purposes were to identify and evaluate the social data needs of regional and sub-regional organisations across the South West region. Through a combination of interviews and focus groups, the project identified the types of social data that were currently available, any gaps in provision and the most appropriate methods of providing access to data. The assessment was based on a representative sample of key users of social information, including regional institutions, local authorities and an array of non-governmental organisations. The project’s final report contributed to ongoing discussions about the creation of a regional social data resource.
