Project Details
Description
This project investigates the medieval and early-modern literatures of Scotland (c. 1304-1707) in three languages: Older Scots, Latin, and Gaelic. It will look to solve two problems: 1) the lack of sustained analysis between the literatures in the three languages, and 2) the difficulties of discovery of what literatures actually exist. In order to address these issues, the project will bring together specialists Verweij (Older Scots), Reid (Latin) and Innes (Gaelic). The team will create a proof-of-concept database and selected dataset ('Literatures of Older Scotland Database' or LOSD). They will also co-author a journal article addressing the challenges of multi-lingual literary research, and organise two workshops that aim to understand the needs of the research communities. The project is finally conceived as the first step towards an investigation of the entirety of the pre-Modern literatures of Scotland.
