Description
Integrating postgraduate students as tutors within a first-year undergraduate tutorial programme benefits students as well as staff. In response to increased student numbers and staff workload, postgraduate students were recruited and trained to lead tutorials focused on debate and discussion skills. Survey results demonstrate that postgraduate tutors develop valuable teaching and leadership skills, undergraduates appreciate the approachability and relatability of postgraduate tutors, and staff experience a reduced workload. Many undergraduates also recognized the tutorials importance in developing transferable skills. This innovative approach provides a model for leveraging postgraduate students to enrich undergraduate education while addressing staff workload challenges.
