Project Details
Description
The establishment of a design requirement is an important part of the design process for both large and medium sized companies. It is thus intended to research methods to enable a guided transitions from customer need to target specification. It is proposed to research the feasibility of the use of ontologies to support the activity of eliciting and generating the initial design requirement. Ontologies will be developed to capture the content and contextual structure of the language used in describing requirements. It is hoped that this will provide knowledge that will help guide the dialogue between customer and designer so that a complete and unambiguous design requirement results. The intention is that this knowledge will be embodied in a computational system to provide 'intelligent' design requirement capture support. The work will be undertaken with two main collaborators who undertake complete design task activities on a regular basis.
